What We Do: We are advancing an exciting product pipeline to address indications with high unmet medical need, including epilepsy and depression. Our flagship azetukalner program represents the most advanced potassium channel modulator in clinical development for multiple indications. Building upon positive results from our Phase 2b "X-TOLE" study in adult patients with focal epilepsy, our Phase 3 epilepsy program includes multiple clinical trials evaluating azetukalner in patients with focal onset seizures and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures. In 2024, we plan to initiate a Phase 3 azetukalner program in major depressive disorder, based on topline data from our Phase 2 "X-NOVA" clinical trial. Additionally, our discovery labs produce leading-edge science, leveraging ion channel expertise and drug discovery capabilities to identify validated drug targets and develop new candidates. Supported by a strong financial position, we aim to build a fully integrated neuroscience company with robust discovery, clinical, corporate, and commercial operations.
About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and strategic
Executive Director, Medical Affairs
to lead the medical strategy for our assets in epilepsy and psychiatry (MDD and bipolar depression), and contribute to our broader pipeline strategy. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, this role is pivotal in shaping and executing medical strategies that support clinical development and commercial goals, in collaboration with Marketing and Market Access.
This position is based in Boston, MA, in our Needham office, with a hybrid work model requiring at least 2 days in-office per week. Other locations may be considered for exceptional candidates, with relocation support available if needed.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement medical affairs strategies aligned with clinical, regulatory, and commercial objectives. Anticipate market and scientific trends to guide insight gathering, evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, and launch planning. Maintain comprehensive product knowledge to inform strategic decisions and positioning. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, and Market Access teams to ensure alignment. Represent Medical Affairs in cross-functional forums, oversee the review of promotional materials for compliance, and support integrated planning. Stakeholder Engagement:
Build relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and patient organizations. Lead scientific engagement activities, including advisory boards, congresses, and peer discussions, to inform and align medical strategies. Evidence Generation:
Oversee design and execution of post-marketing studies, real-world evidence, and investigator-initiated trials. Collaborate on evidence strategies with RWE and HEOR teams, and support the integration of clinical practice innovations. Medical Communication:
Collaborate with Scientific Communications to develop publication and educational strategies. Review scientific materials, abstracts, and manuscripts to ensure accuracy and compliance. Set short- and long-term objectives for the department in line with company strategies. Manage, develop, and evaluate direct reports, ensuring adherence to HR policies. Ensure compliance with company policies and ethical standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent with 15+ years of relevant management experience; MSc considered with relevant experience. Experience with commercialization of innovative neuroscience drugs required. Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and strategic problem-solving skills. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and team development skills. Ability to travel up to 25%, domestically and internationally. The salary range is
