The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine ( BMM ) of the George Washington University, School of Medicine and Health Sciences ( SMHS ), strives to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics and genomics with a goal to better understand human disease. Additionally, the Department continues to have a long and successful record in training Undergraduate, Master and Graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
A position for a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Associate (PA) is available in Dr. Lee’s lab. Lee lab is focused on understanding molecular regulatory signaling networks for cancer metabolism, which further plays an important role in the development of novel cancer therapeutics. The Lee lab research tools include mammalian cancer cell lines, 3D organoid, xenografted tumor and patient-derived xenograft models. And the Lee lab uses various cellular and molecular biology techniques. This position will primarily conduct cancer research focused on metabolic alteration in cancer cells using in vitro cell experiments and in vivo mouse models, collect and analyze data independently and/or with collaboration with other researchers such as PI, research associates, and students, in a controlled laboratory setting. This position will also actively perform to publish manuscripts and apply training grant, help PI for grant submission, and mentor junior research trainees including undergrad students. Also this position will perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Postdocs will design, organize and conduct specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, troubleshoot and design new protocols, summarize findings and publish results in research journals, under the general supervision of a faculty member. In some cases, postdocs will assume general responsibility for general scientific operations in the lab, and/or provide supervision and guidance to laboratory staff, trainees and other researchers.
Detailed Job Description
Design and implement research protocols; design safety procedures; adapt new procedures, methods or instrumentation relative to research procedures. Collect, prepare and analyze research data; keep a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data; maintain computer database of research data; tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data; search pertinent scientific literature as needed. Supervise other personnel in the laboratory; participate in training of fellows, residents, students and volunteer workers as needed. Oversee reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, animal maintenance; assist with ordering and procurement and with general maintenance of laboratory. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
A Postdoctoral Associate
holds a PhD or equivalent degree; develops skills by participating in scholarly projects that are actively mentored by a member of the university faculty; receives financial support in the form of a salary that is typically funded by grants, contracts or departmental funds secured by a faculty mentor; and has a limited term of up to five years at GW.
In collaboration with experienced researchers, this role will participate in the planning and conduction of discovery research, data analysis and interpretation, preparation of materials for publication, presentations at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This role can expect timely advice as to research directions and career planning for a future independent career.

Hiring Range
$61,008 - $61,884
