Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our team in San Diego, CA. This position is responsible for the overall direction, completion, and financial outcome of a construction project. The Senior Project Manager will oversee activities related to contract administration, change orders, submittals, procurement, project financials, and scheduling to ensure projects are completed with quality, profitability, and in alignment with our Safety/Zero Harm culture.
Essential Functions
Safety: ZERO HARM
Lead, oversee, and educate owners, subcontractors, team members, and the community on the Zero Harm safety culture and its benefits.
Conduct project safety walks and participate in safety meetings and incident investigations.
Ensure safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of job planning and execution.
Business Development
Assist in project pursuits, including early involvement, RFP preparation, and presentations.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, construction managers, architects/engineers, subcontractors, stakeholders, and the community.
Attend industry conferences and networking events.
Project Financial Responsibility
Manage project budgets, including subcontractor contracting, cost projections, and financial reporting.
Track costs, manage change orders, and oversee procurement schedules.
Preconstruction Coordination
Manage preconstruction processes, assist with estimates, and support constructability and value engineering efforts.
Create project budgets, staff plans, and scope documentation.
Review contracts and lead negotiations with owners and subcontractors.
Identify project risks and facilitate preconstruction meetings.
Planning & Scheduling
Understand project plans, milestones, and schedules; assist with schedule updates and pull planning.
Develop and manage project schedules, including delay tracking and time impact analyses.
Coordinate procurement schedules and manage schedule roadblocks.
Project Administration, Operations, and Close-out
Lead meetings with owners, architects, contractors, and stakeholders.
Manage change order processes, pay applications, and project reporting.
Oversee project closeout, including obtaining occupancy certificates and government approvals.
Build effective teams, foster a positive culture, and mentor staff, providing timely feedback and participating in performance reviews.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
At least ten years of experience in commercial construction project management, preferably on K-12 or Higher Education projects.
Supervisory experience managing subcontractors.
Proficiency with PC and communication tools such as email, internet, Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office suite.
Experience with financial reporting tools like JD Edwards or Power BI.
Preferred Requirements
Experience with DSA/Public Works projects.
OSHA 30 certification.
Professional certifications such as DBIA or CCM (preferred but not required).
Local candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
The base salary range for this role in San Diego, CA is $150,000 to $180,000 annually.
