About the Job Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist The Institute for Health Informatics (IHI) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist to join Dr. Sisi Ma's research team. Dr. Ma's work focuses on computational causal discovery, predictive modeling, and their applications in biomedicine and health. This is a Researcher 5 position. Duties/Responsibilities Conduct Analytical Experiments (60%) Construct datasets from various sources for research. Design and implement data processing infrastructure; ensure data and code security. Run computational experiments to evaluate machine learning algorithms. Apply algorithms to biomedical and healthcare data. Algorithm Development (25%) Implement machine learning, statistical, and bioinformatics algorithms. Develop and document software and demonstrations. Publications and Presentations (10%) Prepare technical reports and publications. Present results to stakeholders. Mentoring Junior Data Scientists (5%) Qualifications Required: M.A./M.S. in a related technical field with research experience. Experience with Matlab, Python, or R. Experience with SQL or similar database tech. Proven coding skills; provide online samples. Experience with machine learning and statistics. Strong communication skills. Preferred: Experience with messy data, high-performance computing, data visualization, and publishing scientific papers. About the Department The Institute for Health Informatics educates students and conducts research in biomedical and health informatics, focusing on designing and evaluating healthcare information systems across various settings.
