Position Summary The Assistant Advocacy Manager supports the development, coordination, and execution of the organization’s advocacy strategy. Working closely with MCCOY’s Public Policy and Advocacy Director, this role helps advance policy priorities, strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, mobilize community support, and ensure effective communication of the organization’s positions to policymakers, partners, and the public. Key Responsibilities Advocacy & Policy Support the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns and legislative strategies. Monitor and analyze relevant legislation, regulations, and policy trends at local, state, and federal levels. Conduct research and at the direction of the Director of Advocacy prepare policy briefs, fact sheets, and talking points for internal and external audiences. Assist in drafting testimony, position statements, and correspondence to elected officials. Represent the organization in coalition meetings, public hearings, and stakeholder events. Track and file any necessary lobbying disclosures or reports (with oversight from Director). Coalition & Stakeholder Engagement Support Director of Advocacy in preparing weekly Statehouse Sound Off newsletter Cultivate and maintain relationships with policymakers, partner organizations, and community leaders. Coordinate participation in advocacy coalitions and working groups. Draft meeting agendas and take notes or minutes as needed for coalition and working group meetings. Help organize and facilitate stakeholder meetings, roundtables, and advocacy events. Support other projects and programs under the direction of the Advocacy Director, as needed. Community Mobilization Work with the communications team to develop advocacy-related outreach materials and action alerts. Engage grassroots supporters in campaigns and policy initiatives. Assist in planning and executing Youth Day at the Statehouse, as well as potential other advocacy days and other public actions. Internal Coordination Collaborate across departments to align advocacy efforts with communications, research, and program teams. Draft op-eds, blog posts, or social media content tied to legislative priorities. Track advocacy activities and outcomes for reporting and evaluation. Provide regular updates to the Director of Advocacy and MCCOY’s staff on progress and challenges. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, communications, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3–5 years of experience in advocacy, policy, government relations, or related work. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex policy issues for varied audiences. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Commitment to the mission and values of the organization. Preferred: Experience in youth and/or family services. Understanding of legislative processes and political strategy, especially as it relates to Indiana. Experience working with coalitions and grassroots mobilization. Working Conditions Hybrid schedule: minimum 3 days/week in the office with up to 2 days remote allowed, including every Monday. Our staff all work remotely on Fridays. Laptop set up to support hybrid work environment Occasional evening or weekend work is required. Some local travel may be necessary. This position reports directly to the Director of Advocacy and Public Policy
