Scope of Job
Provide management and supervision of the costume shop for the Theatre Department. Plan, supervise and coordinate costume production.
Description of Duties
• Oversees / teaches costume practicums and provides advice and assistance to independent studies students.
• Develops and maintains costume shop budget.
• Maintains costume shop production calendar.
• Oversees and coordinates inventory; orders supplies, equipment; manages and maintains consumable resources and supplies, including major purchases, coordinates donation intakes and negotiates rental packages of costume stock.
• Maintains and repairs equipment.
• Oversees and maintains costume work/classroom spaces, storage spaces and dressing rooms including equipment.
• Collaborates and consults with faculty regarding future equipment repairs and purchases, allocation of equipment and labor resources and production budgets.
• Works closely with costume design and directing faculty and staff members in Theatre, which may include Production Manager, Theatre Business Manager and Administrative Assistant, and student employees.
• Assists with supervision of production technical rehearsals as needed.
• Engages in costume construction, cutting/draping, costume fittings, coordinates and assigns wardrobe supervisors/dressers.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

May supervise student hires.
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, Fine Arts from an accredited University.
Preferred Education
Master’s in Fine Arts from an accredited University in Theater or related field.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
• Two (2) years’ experience in costume shop management and/or costume construction, or
• No experience with a Master’s in Fine Arts from an accredited University in Theater.

Equipment
Use of standard office equipment, domestic and industrial of sewing machines. Sewing, draping/flat patterning, alterations, and other costume technology skills. Specialty techniques such as dyeing, distressing and fabric alteration.
Working Conditions
Work in office classroom and theatrical shop environment. Occasional exposure to fumes, loud noise, dust, dirt, potentially dangerous equipment. Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment: some evening and weekend work is required.
