Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Women's Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Stable, Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: - Labor and Delivery experience - Postpartum experience - Circulating experience - Triage experience strongly preferred Description: The unit consists of 10 Labor and Delivery beds. There are 2 OR suites on the unit for C-sections. RNs will circulate during procedures. The unit has 4 triage beds and 10 postpartum beds. On average, there are about 120 births per month. The facility follows AWHONN guidelines for staffing ratios. In Labor and Delivery, the ratio is primarily 1:1. In postpartum, the ratio is 1:6 couple care. Common patient types include laboring patients at 32 weeks and greater. Elective and medical inductions of labor are performed. Stable antepartum patients and postpartum patients are also cared for. Well newborns are part of the patient population. RNs will be required to titrate drips, primarily Pitocin per protocol, magnesium, and rarely insulin. Each shift has a Charge RN, Resource RN, and House Supervisor. Charge and Resource RNs do not have patient assignments. There are certified nursing assistants providing support on the unit. The unit has a unit clerk available 24/7. OB hospitalists and midwives are on call. Neonatal nurse practitioners are available 24/7. A neonatologist is also on call and can be available within 15 minutes. CRNA services are in-house 24/7. There are no Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit. The facility uses the Epic system for charting in an electronic medical record. Shifts are scheduled as 12 hours each, with both day and night options available. Staff cannot work more than five shifts in a row. Weekend and holiday work requirements are based on unit needs. Travelers may be required to float to similar units within the area. Blue scrubs are provided for staff. Orientation is customized based on individual needs.
