Control Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our dynamic manufacturing team. This role is responsible for the development, programming, troubleshooting, and upgrading of industrial control systems with a focus on supporting plastic processing equipment, including plastic injection molding, sheet extrusion, and thermoforming processes. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in automation and control systems, with hands-on experience in PLC programming, diagnostics, and training support for plant maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems using Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms.
  • Develop and maintain PLC ladder logic, structured text, and function block programming.
  • Configure and support HMI systems, including Allen Bradley PanelView, Beckhoff HMI, and associated control software.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of control system issues across a wide variety of equipment.
  • Provide training and mentoring to maintenance staff on effective PLC I/O diagnostics and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Plan and execute capital projects involving control systems upgrades and migrations from obsolete platforms to current technology.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on automation integration, process improvement, and equipment commissioning.
  • Ensure systems comply with safety, regulatory, and corporate standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation including wiring diagrams, program backups, and configuration data.
  • Support downtime reduction initiatives through predictive diagnostics and control enhancements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a controls or automation engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with installation, maintenance and repair of control system components
  • Proficient in Allen Bradley (ControlLogix, PLC-5, MicroLogix) and Siemens (S7/TIA Portal) platforms.
  • Experience with PLC programming, ladder logic, and troubleshooting control systems in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with ControlLogix, PLCLogix, RSLogix 5000, and related development environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen Bradley HMI, Beckhoff controls, and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Experience in plastic injection molding, plastic sheet extrusion, and thermoforming is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey technical information to non-technical staff.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, particularly around control upgrades and automation deployments.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking, sensors, actuators, VFDs, and safety interlock systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industrial packaging automation platforms a nice to have.
