What You Will Contribute To Altos As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a key role in developing generative AI/ML models for multi-modal, multi-scale biology. We seek a hands-on, senior-level, creative, and collaborative individual to join our multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers focused on transforming how we treat aging and disease. Responsibilities - Partner with world-class scientists across Altos to generate biological insights aimed at developing novel therapies. - Design and implement large-scale machine learning algorithms and systems applied to biological datasets. - Train, evaluate, and optimize machine learning models at scale. - Communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators to meet research and development goals. Who You Are - Proven track record leveraging machine learning to solve real-world problems. - Expertise in generative models, language models, computer vision, Bayesian inference, causal reasoning, transfer and multi-task learning, diffusion models, graph neural networks, active learning. - Experience with production-quality code using frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar. - Experience with multi-GPU and distributed training at scale. - A team player committed to enabling colleagues and fostering collaboration. - Growth mindset with a desire to expand skills and knowledge in biology, computational science, and medicine. - Enthusiasm for Altos' mission of restoring cell health and resilience. Minimum Qualifications - Masters or Ph.D. in a quantitative/computational field or equivalent experience. - 8+ years of experience developing machine learning models. - Strong programming skills in Python and deep learning libraries such as PyTorch or JAX. - Experience with large-scale distributed optimization across multiple GPUs and nodes. Preferred Qualifications - Familiarity with biological data formats and concepts. - Experience in cell health and rejuvenation research. - Experience with drug target and therapeutic assessment. - Applying machine learning to genomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, proteomics, imaging. - Open-source software development record. - Scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals or conferences. - Experience with lower-level languages (e.g., C++, Rust). - Experience with large-scale data processing tools like MapReduce, Dask, SQL, Hugging Face Datasets, TileDB, Ray. Salary Range Redwood City, CA: - Senior ML Engineer: $200,600 - $271,400 - Staff ML Engineer: $232,900 - $315,100 San Diego, CA: - Senior ML Engineer: $186,150 - $251,850 - Staff ML Engineer: $221,000 - $299,000 Exact compensation varies based on skills, experience, and location.
