Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Library Student Assistant for Academic Programming supports the library's efforts to enhance academic engagement and foster a culture of learning across campus. This role involves assisting with the planning, promotion, and execution of academic-focused events, workshops, and resources designed to support students' academic success and faculty collaboration.
  • Assist in planning and organizing academic workshops, study sessions, and programs focusing on various subjects (e.g., research skills, citation management, academic writing)
  • Track attendance, and collect feedback for future programming improvements
  • Help create resource materials or handouts for workshops (e.g., research guides, citation tools, study strategies)
  • Assist in setting up spaces for events, including tech support (e.g., projectors, microphones) and materials distribution
  • Support student engagement by helping to facilitate academic programs and encouraging participation
  • Collaborate with faculty members to identify academic programming needs or opportunities for library partnerships
  • Complete other library assistant duties (shelving, shelf-reading, tidying) as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Positive attitude, adaptable, and eager to contribute to the library's mission
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Basic knowledge of academic library services and resources (e.g., research databases, citation tools, library catalogs)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite is a plus
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Students in this role must commit to working one evening shift (5-10pm) Sunday-Thursday each week
