ExED provides a range of services that support both new and existing charter schools, including facility financing services; CFO services such as accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll processing, and public funding compliance; and compliance and data management services. These services help our clients operate efficiently, build financial plans to meet short-term and long-term objectives, and secure affordable facilities, all of which enable school leaders to spend more time working to improve student achievement at their school.
Position Overview
This Accounting Manager position is based in ExEDs Los Angeles office, which is comprised of over 70 team members who work with charter schools to ensure their success. This position offers a detail-oriented, highly organized professional the opportunity to apply accounting knowledge in a unique wayby helping charter schools efficiently allocate and manage their public dollars. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the full-scope accounting, financial, and payroll process for client charter schools. This position reports directly to the Vice President of School Finance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting/financial functions for up to 8 charter schools.
- Supervise and train accounting staff assigned to the team
- Review and post all journal entries
- Ensure appropriate backup and sign AP checks
- Notify the VP of School Finance when there are client internal control issues (purchasing, W-9s, packing slips, cash collections, fundraising documentation, etc.).
- Conduct monthly financial budget and cash flow forecast of the charter schools to be presented to the VP
- Prepare monthly financial statements and program reports, and present to the VP
- Manage client payroll process, including retirement and health, and welfare benefits, review and submission
- Collaborate with the Director of Payroll Services to properly support retirement reporting
- Lead audit process during the independent financial audits
- Review charter authorizer, state, federal, and philanthropic compliance reports, such as interim and unaudited financial reports, student attendance, National School Lunch, government, and private grant programs
- Facilitate client communication specific to monthly accounting processes, business needs, and special projects. Assist with the annual budget process
- Prepare and file financial reports to various local, state, and federal government agencies such as LACOE, CDE, SELPA, IRS, and EDD
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Knowledge of GAAP, business principles, and standard operating practices
- Knowledge of accounting systems is required
- Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Team player with a demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain effective and cooperative professional relationships
- Strong organizational skills: a self-starter who can prioritize and multitask
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Critical thinking and analytic skills
- Interest in and commitment to public education
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation is commensurate with experience. Please be sure to submit your salary expectations.
- Salary Range is $75,000 - $100,000
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, and a 403(b) retirement package. We also offer a generous vacation, sick, and holiday allocation.
