We’re seeking a Senior Tax Generalist to lead tax engagements across a varied client portfolio. You’ll prepare, review, research, advise, and mentor staff through year-round compliance and planning cycles. This role requires strong technical expertise and client‑facing capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Tax preparation & review of complex returns including 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041, and gift and trust filings. Multi‑state tax compliance for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts/entities, estate planning and high‑net‑ worth clients. Tax research & planning, staying current with federal, New York State and local law updates; assess tax notices and audit exposures by liaising with IRS/state authorities. Client engagement management, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, communicating proactively with clients, and delivering tailored advice. Leadership & mentorship: supervise, review, and coach junior accountants and interns—provide feedback and technical guidance. Project oversight: manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensure timely deliverables and maintain service excellence. Collaboration: partner with audit, bookkeeping or advisory staff as needed to deliver integrated services across client needs. Special projects: take on estate tax planning, ASC 740 tax provision analysis, IRS audit support, projections, and more specialized assignments as needed. Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years in public accounting with broad exposure to individual, partnership, corporate, trust and fiduciary tax engagements. Certification/Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA required or actively pursuing. Master’s in Taxation preferred. Technical skills: Proficiency with tax software platforms like CCH Axcess (Tax & Engagement), ProSystem fx, GoSystems or equivalent; strong Excel skills required. Tax knowledge: Solid understanding of federal, state and local tax laws across entity types; estate, trust planning and multi-state experience valued. Communication & analytical skills: Able to convey complex tax issues clearly to clients and internal team; strong problem-solving and research abilities. Organizational strengths: Adept at prioritizing under deadlines, managing multiple engagements, and maintaining accuracy under pressure. Leadership & teamwork: Demonstrated ability in supervising staff, leading teams across engagements, and fostering a collaborative environment
