Scope of Position The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James), is the only cancer program in the United States that features a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center aligned with a nationally ranked academic health center and a freestanding cancer hospital on the campus of one of the nation’s largest public universities.

The OSUCCC – James has been designated as an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1976 and is funded by the NCI to conduct both phase I and phase II clinical trials on novel anticancer agents provided by the NCI.

As the cancer program’s adult patient-care component, The James is one of the top cancer hospitals in the nation as ranked by U.S. News & World Report for 26 years and has achieved Magnet recognition, the highest honor an organization can receive for quality patient care and professional nursing practice. With 21 floors, more than 1.1 million square feet and 358 inpatient beds, The James is the third-largest cancer hospital in the nation. The Associate Chief Nursing Officer is a member of the OSUCCC-James senior leadership team and as such contributes to the development and execution of the organization's mission, vision, values and strategic plan. Position Summary The

Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) of Inpatient Services

is a key nursing executive responsible for advancing professional nursing practice and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, safe, and evidence-based care across all inpatient settings at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. This includes oversight of inpatient units, the observation unit, Immediate Cancer Care Center, and Cancer Emergency Department. With responsibility for over 2,000 clinical staff—including direct care nurses, nurse managers, and nurse directors—the ACNO plays a critical role in shaping the future of inpatient nursing. The ACNO provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing care, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, continuous improvement, and professional development. This role ensures alignment with nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and the organization's mission and values. The ACNO leads initiatives that promote patient safety, nursing quality, and interdisciplinary collaboration, while supporting innovation in clinical practice, education, and research. As a member of the

Nursing Executive Council (NEC) , the ACNO collaborates with senior nursing leaders across the enterprise to drive the nursing strategic plan, champion nursing excellence, and support the development and execution of the medical center’s broader strategic goals. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or master’s degree in nursing required, master’s is required. Minimum eight years of leadership responsibility within a complex academic health care organization and with progressive experience in nursing leadership. Current Ohio RN license required. Professional certification in Nursing Administration or clinical practice is desired with an expectation of attainment within 18 months of hire. Lean or Six Sigma training.
