DEFINITION To respond to emergency situations related to protection of life and property by performing fire suppression, rescue, and basic/advanced life support activities; to participate in fire prevention duties including training and education; and to perform apparatus, equipment, and station maintenance. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Firefighter Paramedic I
– This is the entry level class in the Firefighter Paramedic series. This classification is distinguished from the journey level by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series.
Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. Employees work under general supervision while learning job tasks. Firefighter Paramedic II
– This is the journey level class within the Firefighter Paramedic series and is distinguished from the Firefighter Paramedic I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Firefighter Paramedic I level. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Firefighter Paramedic I Receives direct supervision from an assigned Fire Captain upon assignment; may receive additional technical and functional supervision from a Firefighter Paramedic II/Field Training Officer. . Experience and Training (Firefighter/Paramedic I) Experience : No experience is required. Paramedic experience is desirable. AND Training : Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree. License and Certificate Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license or higher (Class B or A) by date of appointment. A Firefighter endorsement is required by completion of the Roseville Fire Department Training Academy. Possession of a California Paramedic License or current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic Certificate by date of appointment. Possession of a Sierra-Sacramento Valley EMS Agency (SSV) accreditation by date of completion of the Roseville Fire Department Training Academy. Possession of a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) card by date of appointment. AND Possession of a California Firefighter I Certificate as issued by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). Experience and Training (Firefighter/Paramedic II) Experience : Two years of experience as a paid full time Paramedic at the rank of Firefighter or above with an urban/suburban agency providing services similar to those of the City of Roseville Fire Department.
AND Training : Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.
License and Certificate Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license or higher (Class B or A) by date of appointment. A Firefighter endorsement is required by completion of the Roseville Fire Department Training Academy.
