Automated Systems is seeking a Senior Automation Control Systems Engineer to join our team based in Lake Bluff, IL. You will play a pivotal role in the hardware and software design, updating, or troubleshooting of process automation control systems projects. Your responsibilities will include defining requirements, formulating software design specifications, programming PLC and SCADA applications, configuring thin client server applications, setting up process historian databases, fine-tuning control loops, delivering control system startup services, troubleshooting existing control systems, and overseeing control system qualifications. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead projects from conception to commissioning. Key Responsibilities:
Lead design and development of application/control systems of varying complexity. Assess and implement alternative system solutions to meet requirements. Modify program and system logic across interconnected systems and subsystems. Develop proficiency in various programming languages and control device networks for PLCs and PCs. Engage with clients to understand their business needs, defining project scope, plans, and deliverables. Work effectively within a matrix organization, focusing on customer satisfaction and personal growth. Travel regionally 10-25% of the time as needed. Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Hands-on experience with Rockwell products (ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500, RSView, PanelView Plus, RSBizWare, RSBatch). Experience with other PLC platforms (GE, Siemens, Modicon) and SCADA/HMI packages (iFix, Wonderware). Experience in electrical control system design is preferred. Strong understanding of control system networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.). Bio-pharmaceutical process knowledge is a plus. Familiarity with GMP and validation procedures is desirable. Knowledge of S88 Batch standards and batch system implementation experience is valuable. Instrumentation background is advantageous. Valid driver's license is required. Strong leadership, communication skills, and a dynamic personality are essential. Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, with 8-10 years of relevant experience or equivalent. Experience troubleshooting control systems and understanding process controls. Experience in pharmaceutical and biotech system validation is a plus. Leadership experience is preferred. Willingness to travel locally and occasionally out of state.
