Job Description The STS Tax Manager, State and Local Taxation is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications related to their business objectives, recommending alternative courses of action, and identifying methods of complying with tax regulations. The role involves marketing, networking, and business development within the area of expertise, recognizing potential changes in tax policy, and applying new policies to tax compliance. The STS SALT Manager will collaborate with Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide SALT expertise to clients.

Job Duties

Research: Identify complex situations needing research, analyze findings, and develop relationships with tax authorities.

Tax Compliance: Review tax returns, respond to notices, and assist with audits.

Tax Consulting: Draft memoranda and opinions, determine tax planning strategies, and manage engagements.

Tax Controversy: Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues.

Software: Use tax research databases and related software.

Tax Specialization: Provide technical service, negotiate settlements, and draft technical memoranda.

Accounting for Income Taxes: Prepare tax workpapers.

Strategy Development: Research tax strategies, develop ideas, and suggest marketing approaches.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee work of team members, evaluate performance, and mentor staff.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Accounting or relevant field; Master’s or J.D. preferred.

Over five years in state and local/multistate tax experience.

Experience supervising professionals.

CPA or relevant certification preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with tax software.

Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and lead teams.

Additional Details Salary range varies by location, with a national range of $79,800 - $168,000. BDO offers a culture focused on impact, flexibility, and professional growth, including an ESOP plan. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
