The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.
The Division of Prevention Services (DPS) and its network of contracted providers deliver one of the largest and most diverse continuum of community-based child welfare prevention services in the nation and across New York City to improve safety, wellbeing, and permanency for thousands of families and children each year. DPS focuses on systems improvement, innovation, and strategy initiatives that require collaboration with major stakeholders to address urgent or emerging provider and family needs, city or state mandates, and high priority strategic goals of ACS leadership.
The Office of Family Engagement team in DPS provides services designed to strengthen and stabilize families, prevent the need for out of home care, expedite permanency and prevent the replacement of child in foster care. In addition, the team provides policy guidance to Children’s Services staff and preventive provider agencies working with children and youth with a variety of education, medical, mental health, and developmental challenges.
Specific Duties Of The Support Line Executive Director
The Prevention Support Line Executive Director plays a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of families in need of preventive services. This public-facing program requires a leader who can oversee the operational functions of the support line while assessing programmatic needs to enhance resources that improve family functioning and child well-being. The ideal candidate will have the ability to identify, connect, and build relationships that strengthen community resources for families and stakeholders. Responsibilities include data review, assessment, and oversight of monthly reporting. Additionally, the Executive Director will provide operational guidance to the Support Line Director and staff, ensuring they respond effectively to inquiries via phone or email, offering support such as preventive services, referrals to community-based organizations, and access to concrete resources. This role demands strong leadership in ensuring timely, compassionate assistance to callers, assessing urgent situations, and implementing appropriate actions to support families effectively.
The Support Line Executive Director Will Report To The Assistant Commissioner Of The Office Of Family Engagement And Will Be Tasked With
Oversight and guidance of Support Line operational functioning while maintain the daily operation of the support line. Responsible for staffing. Respond to high level incoming inquires to the Prevention Support Line and/or the Connect Mailbox in a professional, empathetic, and non-judgmental manner. Support with trouble shooting high risk and sensitive concerns received by the Support Line and/or mailbox. Monitor, assess and maintain all data from Support Line Consultants to support submission of end of month data report. Support Director and staff when needed by listening actively and attentively to callers' concerns and questions. Gather pertinent information from callers, including details about the child, and any other relevant circumstances. Supervisory clinical assessment as appropriate when providing support to Director and/or staff. Build and strengthen community resources and relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Lead collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including child protective services, law enforcement, and community organizations, to coordinate appropriate responses. Complete administrative functions, including documentation of call information accurately and thoroughly in the designated database or case management system. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to accurately document call information and follow up on cases. Attend/participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to stay informed about best practices, legal requirements, and emerging issues in the field of child welfare. Previous experience working in child welfare, social services, or crisis intervention is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision. Proficiency in using computers and software applications for data entry, case management, and communication purposes.

Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible experience, including one year at the administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic or community organization operating in the area of social services; or Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and the one year of experience at the administrative or management level as described in "1" above.
