Travel:
~10%, including occasional weekends/on-call work We are looking for a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our Hackettstown, NJ office. The ideal candidate will have significant expertise in the design, programming, and implementation of control systems for switchgear and power distribution applications. This position plays a critical role in enhancing system efficiency, reliability, and safety while ensuring project success from design to field implementation. You’ll work closely with project managers, field technicians, and clients—designing control systems, programming PLCs, configuring HMI/SCADA platforms, and supporting both engineering and operational needs. Design switchgear control systems for low and medium voltage applications (480V to 38kV). Conduct specification reviews, compliance take-offs, and create submittal packages. Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational documentation. Program and configure PLCs (Siemens, Fanuc) and integrate them into SCADA/HMI systems (Siemens WinCC, Wonderware InTouch). Configure and test protective relays, power meters, and circuit breakers. Perform diagnostic and maintenance work on PLCs, HMIs, and protection systems. Ensure compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards at all times. Train internal teams and customers on control system functionality and operations. Support ongoing operations and project delivery at various company and client locations. Maintain professionalism and clear communication in all internal and external interactions. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field required. 10+ years of experience in switchgear design, control systems, and power distribution. Proven hands-on experience with: PLC programming (Siemens, Fanuc) Protection relays and industrial networking Required Skills & Qualifications Advanced knowledge of electrical control design, switchgear systems, and power system architecture. Proficient in reading and creating electrical schematics and control logic. Familiarity with network communication protocols and industrial automation tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities. Effective communicator with leadership experience and ability to work independently. Ability to pass a background check and comply with drug-free workplace requirements. Experience with NetSuite ERP is a plus. Approximately 10% travel to customer sites, vendor locations, and project installations. Willingness to work occasional weekends, off-hours, or provide on-call support when needed.
