Job Description
Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is currently accepting applications for a Senior Process Engineer to support our Charlotte, NC Design Center. Successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team supporting process engineering and design tasks for assigned projects.
Responsibilities
Develop process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
Size and rate various equipment like pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, and air coolers.
Perform hydraulic analysis and calculations for piping systems, including single phase, two phase, slurries, water hammer, slug flow, and distribution networks, using spreadsheets and software.
Supervise, coordinate, and review work of a small team of engineers.
Mentor junior engineers and support department standards development.
Participate in client Process Hazard Analysis reviews (risk review, HAZID, HAZOP/LOPA).
Design relief systems, flare headers, relief valves, and perform contingency and flare header analyses.
Apply standard engineering techniques with judgment for modifications.
Present technical information for review and comment.
Analyze problems to ensure reliable operation of equipment and systems.
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Estimate resource requirements for new projects.
Maintain active status in a drug and/or alcohol testing consortium.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
10+ years experience in Process Engineering within Energy, Chemical, or Power Industries.
Experience with engineering techniques, safety, and environmental regulation compliance.
Experience in PFD, P&ID development, and HAZOP/LOPA studies.
Proficiency in H&MB development, equipment/instrumentation specifications, hydraulic analysis.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to adapt to client requirements and lead positively.
Attention to detail and schedule management.
Judgment and decision-making skills.
Proficiency with Process Engineering Software (preferably AspenTech).
Strong desire to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Professional Engineer.
Experience in gas processing, refining, power, or water treatment industries.
Experience with gas purification technologies and environmental permitting.
Physical Demands
Ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone/email, and operate manual and multi-limb coordination tasks. May need to lift and move objects safely.
Work Environment
Office setting, fast-paced environment, with good visual acuity.
