The Role
Under the direction of
Manager of Electrical & Automation , the
Sr. Controls Engineer
is responsible for all aspects relating to industrial furnaces for steel, aluminum, and strip processing manufacturers. Typical projects include combustion/controls upgrades, furnace rebuilds, field service, and complete equipment design, supply, installation, and commissioning. Requirements
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Key Result Items: Overall project technical responsibility and coordination. Lead engineer role on larger projects (above $300k). Development of equations representing physical systems with translation to computer code. Technical specification and requisition writing. Fabrication and panel instructions. Attend customer technical meetings. Develop and maintain project work schedules. Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and reports. Work independently and collaboratively with a strong desire to learn and build technical knowledge. Domestic and international travel required, including longer durations for startup/commissioning activities. Must be physically capable of onsite work. Core Behaviors

B.S. in Electrical or Automation Engineering preferred; experienced Automation Technologists considered. Knowledge of NFPA 86 electrical design guidelines. Minimum ten years’ experience with Rockwell ControlLogix PLC and HMI systems; experience with Siemens S7 PLC and VFD equipment. Field checkout and startup experience in industrial environments, preferably with combustion and material handling equipment. Proficient in RSLogix, RSView, Wonderware, Siemens Step 7. Familiar with Ethernet, Device Net, and Profibus interfaces. Self-starter, capable of working independently and in multidisciplinary teams. Strong vendor and customer relationship skills. Problem-solving skills with hands-on involvement when needed. Excellent communication, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills. Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally for commissioning. Proficient in Microsoft Office products. Physical Requirements
