Longwood Gardens is seeking an inspiring and experienced leader to serve as our Director of Land Stewardship and Ecology. This role offers an extraordinary platform for ecological impact, innovation, and outreach. You will lead the conservation and enhancement of over 1,000 acres of landscapes, focusing on biodiversity, ecological health, and natural beauty. Responsibilities include: Building and executing the vision for restoration, ecological research, wildlife and invasive species management, and landscape aesthetics. Leading strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of land stewardship practices based on ecological science. Directing, inspiring, and mentoring a team of staff, seasonal employees, interns, students, and volunteers. Developing and leading ecological restoration and research projects to enhance native biodiversity, soil and water health, and ecosystem resilience. Managing wildlife populations, invasive species, and ensuring the health and aesthetic integrity of landscapes. Communicating scientific content to non-expert audiences, delivering public presentations, leading tours, and inspiring teams. Contributing to biodiversity preservation and landscape beauty for current and future generations. We seek a leader who thrives in dynamic environments, values cross-disciplinary collaboration, brings creativity to problem-solving, and is deeply committed to ecological sustainability in vision and practice. The ideal candidate will possess: A doctorate in horticulture, restoration ecology, biology, environmental science, or related fields. At least 7 years of experience in land management. Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role. Proven understanding of science-based land management, native plants, ecological research, and conservation. Ability to improve ecosystem function. A strong record of published research in scientific journals, demonstrating thought leadership in ecology, conservation, or land management. Excellent decision-making, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
