Job Description Job Summary The Safety Engineer is a key member of a cross-disciplinary team driving the design, development, and execution of pilot control, actuation systems, and cockpit solutions programs for next-generation military and commercial aircraft. The Safety Engineer focuses on developing, deploying, and executing system safety analysis, methods, and solutions throughout the product lifecycle, from design to field support.
Essential Job Functions
Perform tasks and analyses such as FHA, SSA, Risk Assessment, FTA, and reliability analysis.
Understand complex airplane systems and ensure safety deliverables feed into design and compliance.
Support design reviews like DFMEA creation in accordance with standards.
Conduct reliability predictions (MTBF, MTBUR) using industry guidelines.
Participate in program Change Control Boards for system qualification and certification.
Support trade studies and safety-related proposals for new aircraft programs.
Review supplier reliability predictions, FMEAs, and FTAs.
Guide safety documentation development to meet customer and contract requirements.
Analyze integration of airplane systems and their effects on overall safety.
Provide safety expertise to stakeholders and leadership.
Ensure compliance with 14 CFR 25.1309 and develop requirements for aerospace systems.
Apply operational and functional analysis for new aerospace products.
Establish quality and reliability standards for suppliers.
Collect field data and analyze failure root causes.
Use engineering techniques to prevent or reduce failure likelihood.
Complementary Description Intermediate level role for moderate complexity projects, with experience in fault trees, reliability predictions, safety assessments, and working with regulatory agencies like FAA and EASA. Capable of managing small projects related to product design improvements. Knowledgeable in safety processes, engineering drawings, and peer reviews. May be a specialist or generalist, serving as lead engineer on moderately complex programs.
Job Requirements Education/Experience:
Bachelor's in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or physics with aerospace experience or equivalent. 2+ years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Self-directed, proficient with project management, engineering documentation, and analysis tools. Knowledge of industry standards, aerospace systems, safety, and environmental implications. Able to communicate effectively and work with internal/external teams. Experience in presenting technical information.
