Family House has been open for over 40 years and provides a "home away from home" for patients and their families who must travel to Pittsburgh for medical care.

GENERAL SUMMARY :

The Housekeeping Department plays a vital role in the overall success of our organization by creating a clean and safe environment for our guests. A Housekeeper/Laundry Attendant will often have the opportunity to interact with the guests. The team's responsibility is to ensure guest satisfaction by always providing outstanding customer service. A Housekeeper cleans and prepares guest rooms and public areas by complying with established standards of cleanliness. The Laundry attendant scope includes washing, drying, folding delivery of all linens and towels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Housekeeping

Maintains an awareness of the Family House (FH) Guest Standards and applies them when the opportunity arises

Cleans all assigned guest rooms and bathrooms, including special cleaning assignments within the rooms and pulling linens, to ensure quality service

Cleans public areas, lounges, laundry areas and hallways on assigned floors to the standard and guidelines established throughout training. Sweeping, mopping, empty trash, removing dirty linens bin and checking and removing lint traps

Observe precautions to protect guest property

Secures and maintains custody of keys and supplies at all times

Maintains a clean and organized work environment by maintaining the organization and cleanliness of housekeeping carts, chemical rooms, linen rooms and supply rooms

Regularly communicates with Housekeeping Manager (HKM) on the progress and status of daily assigned work

Reports safety hazards, theft of room items and items requiring repair to the Housekeeping Manager and/or supervisor

Responds and complies with all guest requests, issues and problems to ensure quality customer satisfaction

Maintains all equipment, including but not limited to, cleaning, emptying filters, emptying dirty water, rinsing of mops, proper storage and return to housekeeping area at end of shift

Consistently provides customer service that relates to the values established within the Family House Mission

Clear understanding that at critical times, they may be assigned to laundry duties

Other duties as assigned

Laundry

Wash, dry and fold all linen and towels

Properly use all soaps chemicals and equipment for cleaning linen and towels

Clean laundry equipment, vent screens, drain traps and lint filters

Maintain and rotate a supply of clean linen and towels

Assist Housekeeping Manager in the monthly linen and towel inventory

Maintain the linen discard log on a daily or weekly basis

Sort linen and pre-treat all stains with the appropriate chemicals

Keep the laundry room, Housekeeping office and Housekeeping storage areas clean and organized

Expedite the delivery of linen as/if requested

Notify Housekeeping Manager of any problems with linen

Secures and maintains custody keys and supplies at all times

Consistently provides customer service that relates to the values established within the Family House Mission

Must have working knowledge and ability of Housekeeping responsibilities, housekeeping equipment, linen removal, shampooing rugs, making beds and Family House Cleaning standard

Clear understanding that a critical times, they may be assigned to Housekeeping duties

Other duties as assigned

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Friendly customer service attitude.

Ability to learn and follow established cleaning processes and procedures, whether it be written or verbal.

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a way which is understood by other staff, guests and management.

Organizational skills necessary to maintain housekeeping carts, chemical rooms, linen rooms and supply rooms.

Ability to verbally communicate problems to leadership and receive direction for resolution of problems. Must also possess the skill to follow through with the direction for positive results.

Must understand and maintain housekeeping /laundry cleanliness standards.

Must comprehend direction, assignments and corrections from management.

Available to work evenings, weekends and a minimum of three/four holidays as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Basic knowledge or general cleaning principles, use of cleaning products and operation of standard cleaning equipment.

Previous Housekeeping experience preferred

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Schedules must accommodate fluctuating business demands and associates may be asked to work shifts other than those they prefer or normally work.

Transportation is not provided. Housekeeper/ Laundry Attendants will be required to report to Family House on time.

Good vision.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, carry, kneel stretch and stoop for an entire 8 hour shift.

Must have finger, hand and upper body dexterity to push, pull and move levers and equipment.

Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Ability push and pull up to 75 pounds.

Exposure to a variety of chemicals & cleaning agents on a regular basis.
