SUD Peer Coordinator

with the

Mobile Response Unit

in our Prevention and Recovery Department.

Peer Recovery staff assigned to the Mobile Response Unit, team up with area law enforcement to provide non-clinical, person-centered, strengths based, wellness focused, and trauma-informed support while helping to ensure the person’s recovery, resiliency, and recovery plan reveals the needs and preferences of the person being served to complete their measurable and personalized goals. Referrals to the team are submitted from local Dispatch, EMS, fire & Rescue, Law Enforcement, Hospitals, Families, and other supportive individuals. Mobile response teams conduct outreach and offer services to people who have experienced an overdose within 48-72 hours of the overdose event.

Responsibilities Serves as the direct supervisor for peer recovery staff assigned to the GRCSB Mobile Response Unit that covers the localities of Dinwiddie, Hopewell, Prince George and Surry. Coordinates daily operations for the program, conducts community outreach, training, and facilitates recovery related events, while providing leadership, guidance, and support to peer support specialists.

Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in human services field, public health, education, public policy, sociology or related field. Two (2) years as a Certified and Registered Peer Recovery Specialist with the Virginia Department of Health Professions. At least 24 consecutive months of sustained behavioral health recovery. One (1) year position related lived experience as a consumer of mental health and/or substance use services. Two (2) years of experience supervising peer recovery specialists. Experience in a behavioral health environment. Valid Driver’s License with a point balance of -6 or higher.

Preferred Education and Experience Three (3) years as a Certified and Registered Peer Recovery Specialist with the Virginia Department of Health Professions. Three (3) year position related lived experience as a consumer of mental health and/or substance use services.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge and skills in supporting individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders; to perform work tasks in a harmonious and effective manner and to be able to balance personal recovery with aspects of the delivering services to other consumers. Experience providing services in community settings (ex. consumer homes) Experience facilitating trainings and presentations to varying audiences (ex. schools systems, local government agencies, faith based organizations, and other stakeholders). Experience in supervision, maintaining program budgets, and completing administrative responsibilities.

Special Work Conditions Ability to life up to 35 pounds. This position is community based to include home visits, local government locations to include public schools, and various stakeholder locations to include faith based entities. May be required to work evenings or travel throughout the Commonwealth, including overnight, to support agency functions.

Will be required to travel within the Greater Reach CSB catchment area.

Fingerprints, State and FBI criminal record reports, drug test, and central registry report will be required upon selection. Our Agency maintains a drug-free workplace.

This position is funded through a grant provided by The Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funds. Should the funding end or be reduced, the position may be modified or eliminated in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.

Annual Salary Range Grade S-C8 $57,965.00.00 – $65,211.00 Excellent fringe benefits
