Basic Function:

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, under the general supervision of the Director of Radiology and Radiologists, utilizes radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals to perform or assist in diagnostic examinations, including radionuclide imaging of organs and organ systems, dynamic studies, assays of body fluids and tissues, and radio-assays. Requirements:

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and certified by either the ARRT or N.M.T.C.B. in Nuclear Medicine Technology. Previous experience in Nuclear Medicine is desirable. Responsibilities:

Prepares appropriate dosages of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic procedures, calculating the amount and volume of activity based on age, weight, and examination requirements. Administers radiopharmaceutical doses to patients intravenously (where legally permitted), orally, or by inhalation. Receives patients, explains procedures to obtain cooperation, and records observations that may affect test results. Reviews patient charts and assists with patient positioning and operation of equipment. Operates imaging equipment, sets up devices, performs routine and special imaging procedures, and adjusts controls to produce diagnostic-quality images. Consults with staff professionals as needed. Communicates test interpretations to hospital personnel, schedules examinations, maintains inventory, and ensures examination rooms are properly prepared and maintained. Performs quality control on instruments, checks operation of survey and monitoring devices, and records results. Performs venipuncture, manages blood specimens, and instructs patients on collection procedures. Receives, checks, and processes radionuclide shipments, and disposes of radioactive materials according to regulations. Adheres to safety policies, uses personal protective equipment, and follows procedures to minimize occupational risks. Provides age-appropriate patient care, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills. Salary Range: $38.59-$57.89/hour . Pay varies based on experience, skills, education, and location. Positions are exempt under FLSA.
