SECURITY GUARD

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Security Guard for the Reservoir Section of the Water Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Senior Security Guard, the position will be responsible for patrolling the watershed areas, properties, and buildings. This is a vehicular patrol position with extensive driving required on a regular basis. This position will require walking extensively and perform physical checks on departmental facilities during each work shift. The work schedule will consist of evenings, nights, and weekends only, there are no day shift hours available for this position. Additional duties may include first aid response, crowd control, and ability to effectively manage high risk situations.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
Perform regular patrols by foot and vehicle of the ten (10) drinking water reservoirs, watershed forestlands, and drinking water facilities
Write incident reports of accidents, trespassing, thefts, disturbances, and emergency first-aid response
Educate the public about the rules and regulations on City of Worcester property
Ensure facility rules and regulations are maintained
Investigate disturbances and report emergencies to police or fire
Check drinking water pumpstations for alarms and report emergencies to the appropriate division staff members
Maintain accurate and professional daily activity report
Perform related work as required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Working knowledge of building protective procedures and techniques
Working knowledge and ability to enforce rules and regulations concerning grounds patrolled
Experience using handheld radios and operating communication systems
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to read and interpret geographic maps and street maps
Experience using handheld radios
Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations
Ability to work independently
Ability to perform duties requiring considerable walking and exposure to inclement weather
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City personnel and the public
Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or equivalent
Prior experience as a security guard or in a patrol environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of professional experience in a patrol environment
Prior law enforcement and/or military experience
One (1) year of experience with customer service
SALARY RANGE:
$24.51 - $30.73 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
