A growing medical device manufacturing client in Maple Grove, Minnesota is looking to hire a Principal R&D Engineer to join their team! This person will be playing a critical role in leading a dynamic team of engineers to design, develop, and innovate cardiovascular devices with a focus on heart valve technologies. This position requires a deep understanding of both the engineering principles and the medical aspects related to heart valve systems. We are looking for someone who has proven success driving product development, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement while leading by example. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage all phases of heart valve product development, ensuring projects are delivered on time and aligned with strategic objectives. Collaborate across functional teams—including R&D, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing—to coordinate efforts and maintain project momentum. Spearhead the design and development of next-generation heart valve technologies, balancing engineering innovation with clinical needs. Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentoring a multidisciplinary team of mechanical and biomedical engineers. Participate in and lead technical design reviews, offering expert guidance and resolving complex engineering challenges. Partner with the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure product designs meet global regulatory standards and assist in preparing regulatory submissions. Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to establish and maintain rigorous quality control and testing protocols. Oversee performance validation and safety testing to ensure compliance and clinical efficacy of heart valve products. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) strongly preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in medical device development, with a specific focus on heart valves or cardiovascular technologies. Proven track record of leading cross-functional engineering teams and managing complex development projects. Deep understanding of medical device regulatory frameworks, including FDA and ISO standards, and experience in regulatory documentation and submissions. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies. Salary of $140K - $160K base + bonus and benefits Seniority level
