Starshield leverages SpaceX's Starlink technology and launch capabilities to support national security efforts. While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is tailored for government use, focusing on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads. The Starshield software team builds highly reliable in-space mesh networks, designs secure systems for access to space, and develops next-generation communication and sensing software. Aerospace experience is not required; we value engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on an inspiring mission. We seek versatile, motivated, and collaborative engineers as we expand this team. Our team is involved in designing vehicle systems at every development phase, building tools for efficiency, and creating secure, reliable, and autonomous software systems. Software engineers are responsible for the entire software lifecycle, including development, testing, and operational support. An active Top Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain one is preferred but not mandatory. Responsibilities:
Develop highly reliable autonomous software systems Design and implement fault detection and mitigation in software Create prototypes to validate design concepts and assess technical constraints Own all aspects of software development, including design, testing, and mission integration Provide technical leadership and focus on continuous improvement Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or a STEM discipline with 5+ years of software development experience; or 7+ years of professional experience without a degree 2+ years of development experience in C/C++ Preferred Skills and Experience:
Strong software design and development skills Knowledge of control theory Experience designing fault-tolerant software Thorough understanding of computer architecture and networks Knowledge of physics, math, and electronics Skills in debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing Creative problem-solving approach Ability to work effectively in dynamic environments and independently or in teams Additional Requirements:
Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed Note: An active clearance may provide opportunities to work on sensitive missions; pre-employment drug testing and random testing apply Compensation and Benefits: Salary Range: $160,000 - $220,000 per year, dependent on experience and qualifications.
