The CCT Paramedic will provide care and treatment of chronically or acutely ill and/or injured patients transported by Edward Ambulance as stipulated by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the System Medical Director. Responsibilities include: Providing high quality care to patients in the transport environment under the direction of the Program Medical Director and the referring and/or receiving Physician in accordance with Critical Care policies, protocols, and standards of care. Autonomously evaluating critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (pediatric through adult), providing therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and preparation for transport. Collaborating with other members of the team, including drivers, coworkers, leadership, other healthcare partners, and customers. Assessing for and detecting changes in the status of patients and demonstrating a proactive approach to solving patient and family problems. Planning, organizing, and positioning equipment and supplies for use in emergency conditions before, during, and after transport. Maintaining complete and accurate records, participating in quality assurance programs, performing data collection, and participating in any special projects. Maintaining clinical proficiency across all aspects of the Critical Care Division's scope of practice including care of patients with neurological emergencies, cardiac emergencies, pediatric emergencies, obstetrical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, and other patient populations transported by the Critical Care Division. Performing all physical requirements of the job in confined spaces and under adverse environmental conditions. Completing transports initiated within the time frame of the scheduled shift, understanding that completion of these transports might extend beyond normal work hours. Participating in all required didactic, clinical, and lab education programs and maintaining all required certifications and licenses. Maintaining clinical competency in all critical care procedures and equipment, including but not limited to ventilators, IV pumps, dopplers, chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, ventricular assist devices, transcutaneous/transvenous pacers, external ventricular drains, and advanced airway management. Completing and maintaining currency in all areas of safety education as required by Edward Ambulance. Demonstrating effective communication skills with all external and internal customers, including patients and their families, hospital staff, the community, other Edward Ambulance staff, and Critical Care administration. Qualifications include: Minimum 2 years of ALS experience. CCT-P Paramedic certification. Demonstrated leadership, e.g. FTO, PIC, or Preceptor. Expectations for further training within three months include: Current certification in AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, or PEPP. Current trauma certification in ITLS, PHTLS.
