Position Overview
Primary Function:
The AmeriCorps Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting our tri-county rural AmeriCorps program. The AmeriCorps Program Coordinator is part of a highly collaborative Office of Civic Engagement and South Cumberland Community Fund (SCCF) team and will assist the AmeriCorps Program Manager in AmeriCorps member recruiting and training, program monitoring and reporting, and communicating activities for a portfolio of AmeriCorps members.
This position works with considerable independence and self-direction. Only the general direction and scope of the work to be accomplished are discussed with the supervisor. The staff member is expected to independently carry out position duties and understands what is expected and how to do it.

Position Description
Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Support the AmeriCorps team throughout the program year. Duties include: time-tracking, providing regular support for members and supervisors, and regular in-person/virtual site visits and cohort meetings.
  • Assist the AmeriCorps Program Manager in the recruitment, selection, and placement of the AmeriCorps members. Duties include creating and distributing communication and outreach materials, posting positions on various online platforms, sharing position information through local community networks and events, coordinating interviews and the assignment process, assisting with communication to key stakeholders, and collecting onboarding and offboarding paperwork
  • Collaborate on AmeriCorps member development programming with the Program Manager. Duties include collaborating on content and delivery for member orientation, ongoing professional development, corps-building activities, and national days of service.
  • Support program communications. Duties include: Collaborating with the Program Manager on content creation for communications about AmeriCorps activities and impact; assisting in the distribution of approved content via print, electronic, and social media; and collaborating with OCE and SCCF communications teams on effective communications to support the SCP AmeriCorps Project.
  • Plan and execute events for awareness and recruitment of AmeriCorps members in local communities and on campus. Duties include: managing logistics, scheduling, promotion, and budgeting.
  • Perform related program administrative functions. Duties include completing AmeriCorps enrollment and exit paperwork, submitting payroll and service verification, and ensuring the maintenance of basic programmatic files in accordance with AmeriCorps compliance (e.g., host site agreements, member files, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Office of Civic Engagement on the Office's strategic goals, planning, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with other university departments and community agencies on initiatives important to the OCE and the SCP AmeriCorps Project.
  • Collaborate with the South Cumberland Community Fund on shared projects and initiatives for mutual support.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Commission staff as needed to support the program and meet grant requirements.
  • Participate in conferences, webinars, and professional training sessions relevant to the role and program to further develop the Coordinator and enhance program operations, recruitment, and retention.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the organization's mission, and the scope and parameters of the AmeriCorps agency, Volunteer Tennessee guidance, and applicable service year grant.

Judgment Required:
Performance of the essential duties of this position is dependent upon independent ingenuity and developmental efforts.
Budgetary Responsibility:
Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares budget data for review/approval by supervisor/department head.

Internal: (Operations Committee, Faculty, Administrative department heads) Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
External: (Regents & Trustees, government officials or agencies, visitors, parents, other institutions, colleges, or companies, suppliers) Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with community-based agencies/groups and the public.
Attributes of a Successful Candidate
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related academic program
Experience:
3+ years of related experience preferred.
Job-Related Skills:
  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps and national service programs, and direct experience with AmeriCorps or a related initiative are strongly preferred.
  • Experience with rural communities and/or community nonprofits is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with software are necessary to implement related duties.
  • Strong initiative with demonstrated ability to complete tasks efficiently and to identify and resolve day-to-day program problems.
  • Ability to plan and implement workshops, meetings, and events which meet specific programmatic goals and serve designated target audiences.
  • Flexibility and ability to work with stakeholders with divergent interests and needs.
  • Strong organizational skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
