is seeking a
full-time Contract Optometrist
to join our mission-driven team in the breathtaking Uintah Basin of northeastern Utah—where rugged natural beauty meets rich cultural heritage. At Fort Duchesne, you’ll work alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team delivering culturally informed, whole-person care—including public health nursing, behavioral health, social services, substance abuse support, and nutrition education—tailored to the unique needs of the community. Position Details Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Duration: Up to 1-year contract with potential extensions Setting: IHS facility – serving adults and pediatrics Experience Required: 2–3 years of family optometry Preferred: Previous Locum Tenens experience Certification: BLS required License: Any active U.S. state license accepted Role & Responsibilities
Provide full-scope primary eye care independently, with support staff assistance. Perform comprehensive eye exams, obtain and document medical histories in the EHR, and develop accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans. Prescribe eyewear, contact lenses, and medications; order and interpret ancillary testing (OCT, visual fields, imaging, etc.). Perform minor surgical procedures (such as foreign body removal, papilloma excision) and provide pre- and post-operative care. Coordinate follow-up and referrals as needed.

Must be a licensed Optometrist Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Must have current BLS, Basic Life Support certification Certification of Education - copy of diploma or transcripts Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution DEA license and eligibility to prescribe medication Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in Optometry Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Strong diagnostic, clinical, organizational and time-management skills Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems Must be a US citizen living primarily in the United States Willingness to comply with all state and federal regulations regarding medical practice must be willing to undergo a federal background check Apply today to speak to a member of our recruiting team!
