The Department of Comprehensive Care's mission is to educate dental students with the best available evidence and technology to achieve and maintain optimal patient oral health, comfort, function, and esthetics through risk-based diagnosis, prevention, tooth-preserving management of caries and non-carious diseases, and disorders of the oral cavity, considering the patient's overall health in an integrated health environment.
Position Overview
This position is for a full-time grant-funded Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. The Clinical Social Worker will participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Social Worker - Dentist Model, an innovative, integrated care approach to address social drivers of health and improve oral health outcomes. In this role, the Clinical Social Worker will work with dental students, faculty, and patients with medically and socially complex health needs. The associated grant timeline is currently set through June 30, 2027.
Essential Functions:
• Develop, implement, and evaluate the integration of social work services and clinical care in the pre-doctoral dental clinics to address barriers and complexities of oral health care for vulnerable and underserved populations, including, but not limited to, special and behavioral health needs, and complex psychosocial issues.
• Educate pre-doctoral dental students and faculty to assess and address social drivers of health in clinical care and practice.
• Work within existing dental school clinical structure/operations to develop ways for dental students and faculty to support access to community-based social work services and resources.
• Collaborate with local colleges and schools of social work and its Field Education Program to establish TUSDM as a future field placement site for social work students; provide direct supervision and coordination.
• Participate in project team meetings and activities, including curriculum development for pre-doctoral dental education and faculty development.
• Collaborate with project team members on dissemination activities, including presentations at relevant dental and social work conferences and manuscript submissions for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Provide ongoing faculty development on integrated care, teamwork, social drivers of health, cultural competence, and health literacy.

Basic Requirements:
**Candidates must meet basic requirements to be considered for this position**
• Master's degree in social work from a Council on Social Work Education accredited school of social work, required.
• Current licensure as Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) to practice in Massachusetts, required.
• Minimum 2-3 years post-MSW direct practice experience, required.
• Clinical teaching or precepting experience, required.
• Evidence of behavioral assessment and treatment planning in previous roles.
• Demonstrates knowledge, skills and attitudes for effective collaborative practice, interprofessional communication, and team-based care.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in social work or a related field, preferred.
• Experience as a clinical or didactic, graduate-level educator.
• Current Licensure as Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) to practice in Massachusetts, preferred
