Licensed Practical Nurse
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. This Licensed Practical Nurse position is at the VA Boston Healthcare System located at the Jamaica Plain, MA location. This position is a full time position at 40 hours per week. The incumbent serves as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) under the direction of the nurse manager of the ambulatory surgery unit. The incumbent performs direct patient care and participates in activities that support safety on the unit and enable the program to meet its general requirements. The incumbent will interface with personal computer (PC) applications and numerous VISTA applications in the performance of his/her duties. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Administering medications utilizing Bar Code Medical Administration (BCMA) Documenting treatments and patient care utilizing Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and Caribou Providing end of life care to veterans Collaborating effectively with veterans, their families, and the interdisciplinary team Developing and implementing measurable functional goal-oriented plans of care Ensuring documentation of restorative care and documentation of observations and summaries into MDS and the impact on the CLC Compare Quality measures Complete assigned duties/responsibilities, which involve performing standard practical nursing activities Demonstrate knowledge/skills to resolve a range of nursing problems Demonstrate knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to situations in the provision of nursing care, provide a safe environment and protect patients' rights, and recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations Be aware of program policies, procedures, and directives that are in place for all VA employees as well as those that are unique to the specific program(s), and practice in a manner consistent with these policies Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift. LPNs at this grade level are expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license (e.g., medication administration); however, completed work may require routine or detailed higher level review depending upon the complexity of the duties involved. GS-04 Qualifications: Employees may be appointed at or advanced to GS-04 if they meet any of the criteria below: Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN; OR Graduation from an approved school and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures; OR Graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months duration. GS-05 Qualifications: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-04 level or equivalent.
