The Senior Payments DBA is a senior-level database engineering lead responsible for delivering highly complex, scalable database solutions with a focus on payment systems and large-scale transaction processing. We are seeking a skilled and proactive DBA to manage, maintain, and optimize our organization's database systems. The ideal candidate will ensure data integrity, performance, security, and availability across multiple environments, supporting both development and production systems. The ideal candidate is a hands-on DBA with a proven track record in AWS cloud based hosting, distributed systems, and modern database administration practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain database systems Monitor database performance and proactively address issues related to tuning, indexing, and query optimization Ensure high availability and disaster recovery through backups, replication, and failover strategies Implement and maintain database security policies, including access controls and encryption Collaborate with development teams to support application integration and schema design Perform regular audits and updates to ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards Automate routine tasks using scripting languages Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and standards Collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and six to ten years of experience or equivalent education and software engineering training or experience In-depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function Ability to plan and manage projects and solve complex problems by applying best practices Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates. Ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information Preferred Qualifications Minimum 10 years' experience building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems in a variety of modern database products 5+ years' experience working with databases in public cloud Strong knowledge of working with DMS, CloudWatch, Performance Insights and other DB monitoring tools like PMM, Foglight or similar Strong Knowledge and experience in integrating and working on Cloud Monitoring tools Dynatrace and logging tools like Splunk Deep knowledge of database internals, troubleshooting, query optimization, explain plan analysis and performance optimization on a variety of modern database systems Experience migrating databases from one DB engine to another DB product Broad exposure and work experience on a variety of Databases and Data warehousing technologies Experience on No-SQL databases like Cassandra and DynamoDB Excellent communication skills. Should be able to communicate efficiently with customers and leaders, lead discussions during incident calls Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Other Job Requirements / Working Conditions Sitting Constantly (More than 50% of the time) Standing Frequently (25% - 50% of the time) Walking Frequently (25% - 50% of the time) Visual / Audio / Speaking Able to access and interpret client information received from the computer and able to hear and speak with individuals in person and on the phone. Availability Able to work all hours scheduled, including overtime as directed by manager/supervisor and required by business need.
