Database Administrator (DBA)
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the ongoing design, implementation, and maintenance of our database systems, with a focus on SQL Server, Azure, DB2 LUW, and DB2 z/OS. This includes ensuring data security, reliability, and optimal performance. This position requires a deep understanding of database management, performance tuning, and data security. What You'll Do: Database Management: Installing, configuring, and maintaining database systems. Data Security: Implementing security measures to protect data from unauthorized access and breaches. Performance Monitoring: Monitoring database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing performance. Backup and Recovery: Creating and maintaining backup and recovery procedures to prevent data loss. User Access Management: Managing user accounts and permissions. Data Integrity: Ensuring data accuracy and consistency. Database Design and Development: Working with data modelers to design and implement database structures. Collaboration: Working with other IT professionals, developers, and users to ensure database systems meet the organizations needs. Capacity Planning: Anticipating future storage needs and planning accordingly. Database Upgrades: Applying updates and patches to keep databases secure and up-to-date. Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving database issues. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Proven experience as a DBA with SQL Server, Azure, DB2 LUW, and DB2 z/OS. Proficiency in T-SQL, PL/SQL, and SQL programming. Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization techniques. Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning. Familiarity with Azure infrastructure and services. Familiarity with modern data architectures, including data lakes, relational databases, and data models. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to addressing data management challenges, including data quality, data profiling, and other related issues. Project management skills with a demonstrated ability to complete small to medium-sized projects successfully. Knowledge of data governance, data security, and compliance best practices. What You Need: Bachelors degree or completion of a Computer Science Program from a Technical Trade School is preferred. Technical training with certification in assigned technology is required as applicable. Minimum of five years experience in I.T. and/or application development is required. Demonstrated experience in managing various DBMS technologies by performing various database management functions including schema changes, software updates, monitoring, and troubleshooting, within defined service levels. Preferred experience with technologies such as SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI, Azure, DB2, ER/Studio, and Microsoft Office products.
