General Responsibilities: Under general supervision this position will be responsible for maintaining clean and orderly facilities for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by utilizing assigned resources and equipment to perform routine housekeeping and custodial duties.
Essential Functions: Routine Sanitation Duties Ensure industry standard sanitation levels are met for all assigned campus buildings and grounds by utilizing assigned resources, equipment and procedures. Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, door handles, hand rails, tables, desks and other hard surfaces as necessary. Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, polish and perform carpet extraction. Clean furniture and equipment; clean chalk/whiteboards; polish furniture and metal fixtures; Wash windows, wipe down walls and fixtures; vacuum carpets, rugs, curtains and furniture. Empty and restock wastebaskets and assist with the recycling program. Maintain inventory of equipment and products. Ensure consumables such as toilet paper, trash liners, paper towels, soap, etc. are adequately stocked. Follow written and verbal instruction on the use of chemicals and equipment following all safety policies and guidelines. Complete assigned work order documentation. Set-up and take-down Prepare for events by setting up and taking down equipment and furnishings, such as whiteboards, easels, chairs and tables for classes, meetings, conferences, and other events as assigned. Lock and unlock buildings, check for unlocked doors and windows, report unauthorized occupants, provide assistance to campus security as needed. Maintenance Perform minor maintenance and repair associated custodial equipment such as; extractors, scrubbers, vacuums, brooms, mops, squeegees, etc. for the cleaning and general maintenance of facility sanitation. Shovel snow, sweep and wash sidewalks and exterior of buildings. Apply ice-melt as needed Other related duties as assigned Addition tasks assigned by supervisor Competencies
Able to make the best use of available time and resources. Ability to prioritize and self-manage workload through changing business needs. Demonstrated attitude toward excellent customer satisfaction and continuous quality improvement. Must be able to work with high integrity, accountability and be a team player. Required Qualifications
: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.
Must be at least 18 years of age and have valid driver's license. Physically able to lift 50 pounds, with or without the use of a cart or hand truck and able to do the required custodial work that includes repeated stooping, bending, operating heavy custodial equipment, climbing and working from height of an eight-foot ladder, stand and walk continuously during your entire assigned shift. Experience that indicates a skill set or skill level to perform the assigned custodial tasks; experience operating the tools of the trade; experience making minor repairs to custodial equipment. Experience that indicates a skill set for providing excellent customer service or have demonstrated commitment toward excellent customer satisfaction and continuous quality improvement. Proven history of dependability, reliability and being a team player. Desire to work safely and promote a safe work environment. Preferred Qualifications: Work experience as a custodian. Work experience with customer facing contact and service. Knowledge of cleaning methods, safety practices, chemicals, equipment, and supplies used in general custodial work. Ability to operate vacuum cleaners, electric polishers, buffers, and other professional custodial equipment. Ability to carefully monitor equipment to ensure proper operation and early detection of problems. Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This part-time temporary position (up to 17-hours per week) is located at the Walla Walla Campus. Shifts will be approximately 5:30pm-9:30pm.
This position has a typical working environment that will consist of both indoor and outdoor activities, often in inclement weather. Risks include operating tools and machinery, rotating equipment, chemical hazards, and other tools of the trade. Routine assignments also include working at heights and from ladders, and lifting and carrying items (supplies and equipment) up to 50 pounds. Must have ability to perform 10-hour shift of walking, bending, standing, kneeling, lifting, and pushing carts & equipment. Possible contact with blood borne pathogens and or bodily fluids. Custodians must be able to work any days and shifts. Occasional overtime and callbacks may be required. This position will have direct contact with the public, students, and other institutional staff. Safety practices consistent with WISHA
