Summary:

Specializes in surgeries of the mouth, gums, teeth, neck and jaws. Consult with patients about treatment options, perform surgeries and keep abreast of the latest advances in surgical and dental technology.

Required Education:

Dental Doctorate Degree - Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine of Dentistry (DMD)

Required Certifications:

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association, Arkansas Dental License - Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners, Basic Life Support CPR for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) - American Heart Association, Oral Surgeon License - Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association

Description:

  1. Coordinate the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company and State and Federal agencies. Maintain proper, detailed and accurate dental records.
  2. Travel between clinics to work, as needed. Willingness to be on-call, as scheduled, by the Dental Director/ Assistant Dental Director.
  3. Assist Clinic Manager/Dental Manager in supervising the dental staff and assuring that clinic is compliant with State and Federal guidelines. Meet productivity goals, as set by the Arkansas Children’s Hospital organization.
  4. Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, staff and administration. Supervise Dental Assistants with whom he/she works.
  5. Perform other tasks, as directed by the Dental Director/ Assistant Dental Director, as needed to meet clinic or organization goals.
  6. Examine, diagnose and treat dental conditions to provide optimum care to patients.
  7. Consult and educate the patient/parent/guardian and advise them of dental status and required treatment, including risks, benefits and alternatives.
  8. Consult with patients and analyze patient data to determine patient needs and treatment goals. Collaborate with other specialists, such as restorative dentists and orthodontists, to plan treatments.
  9. Record patient care by maintaining detailed notes of appointments, including comments, tests, and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.
  10. Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by the patient during procedures. Perform surgical procedures to extract impacted or damaged teeth, place dental implants, and remove tumors and other abnormal growths of the oral and/or facial regions.
  11. Conduct research on defects, diseases, and disorders affecting the oral and/or facial regions.
  12. Prepare and maintain charts, treatment plans and complete required reports. Understand the organization’s commitment to provide high quality patient care and promote a patient-centered environment.
  13. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops.
  14. Other Duties as assigned.
