The Department of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons is
seeking a highly qualified leader to take on the role of assistant medical director for the emergency department at
NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). The NYP-CUIMC ED
serves approximately 115,000 patients annually, is the university ED for Columbia’s quaternary care center, and
is in the Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights.
As an Assistant Medical Director, the successful candidate will report to the respective Medical Director and
will be charged with the following:
- Assist with management of the daily ED operations
- Collaboration with EM and hospital leadership to enhance clinical care for all patients
- Support and help to initiate quality and performance improvement efforts and initiatives as
directed by the Chair, Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, or Vice Chair of Quality and Patient Safety - Participate in representing the Department of Emergency Medicine to hospital leadership, as well
as and within interdisciplinary workgroups
Successful applicants must possess an MD or DO, have completed an emergency medicine residency, and have
current board certification in Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and
communication skills to work collaboratively across the organization. Columbia University Irving Medical Center

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to
departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, shift assignment and training. The above
