Palliative Care Physician

Jackson Memorial Hospital seeks a compassionate and skilled Palliative Care Physician to join our growing interdisciplinary Palliative Care Service. This is a consultative role providing high-quality palliative care across settings: inpatient consultation, outpatient clinic, skilled nursing facilities, and contracted inpatient hospice beds. The physician will work closely with a team of nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and trainees to deliver expert symptom management, serious illness communication, and support for patients and families facing life-limiting illness.

Inpatient Consultative Palliative Care

Provide palliative care consultations for patients with serious illness throughout the hospital (medical, surgical, ICU, oncology, etc.).

Lead and participate in goals-of-care discussions and family meetings.

Collaborate with primary and specialty teams to co-manage complex symptoms and facilitate care planning.

Serve as a clinical resource for palliative care principles and best practices.

Outpatient Palliative Care Clinic

Conduct scheduled outpatient visits for patients with serious illness, often in coordination with oncology, primary care, and other subspecialties.

Provide longitudinal care and advance care planning.

Support transitions between care settings.

Hospice Medical Oversight

Provide attending-level coverage for patients in contracted inpatient hospice beds, in collaboration with the hospice agency.

Review and certify hospice eligibility, participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, and support symptom management.

Education and Team Development

Participate in the education of residents, fellows, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.

Attend interdisciplinary team meetings; support quality improvement initiatives and clinical pathways related to palliative and end-of-life care.

Qualifications

MD or DO degree with fellowship training and board certification or board eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Strong clinical skills in symptom management, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Experience in inpatient, outpatient, and hospice settings preferred but not required.
