Senior Instrument Control Technician

The Public Works Departments Environmental Services Division (ESD) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Citys 15.7 million gallon per day (MGD) conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The WWTP serves over 140,000 residents with an annual budget exceeding $15 million and a staff of 33 professionals and technicians. Planned upgrades include new treatment facilities with headworks, primary treatment, and BNR/MBR processes. What Youll Do
The Senior Instrument Control Technician installs, maintains, calibrates, tests, and repairs data acquisition, radio communications, and instrumentation/control equipment for wastewater systems; oversees SCADA and PLC systems; assists with CMMS; performs electrical, electronic, and mechanical work; operates advanced wastewater treatment systems; and performs related duties.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic and electromechanical equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot control systems like PLCs, RTUs, SCADA devices; repair control and power failures.
- Develop and implement improvement projects; maintain documentation and records.
- Perform technical programming and troubleshooting of SCADA systems; communicate with staff and contractors.
- Respond to internal customer issues; oversee control system modifications; prepare reports.
- Develop procedures for instrumentation and control activities; provide safety and technical training.
- Write PLC code, interpret schematics, and program control systems.
- Lead instrumentation projects; install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical and electronic equipment.
The position reports to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Superintendent and may supervise technicians and contractors.
Ideal Candidate
Possesses knowledge of computer systems, programming, SCADA, safety practices, and relevant laws; able to diagnose electronic malfunctions, read schematics, and use testing instruments; able to work effectively with diverse teams and respond to emergencies.
What You Bring
Minimum three years experience in instrumentation/control systems; an Associates degree in computer science, electronics, or related field; valid California drivers license; CWEA Grade III Certification preferred.
