Summary:
The Fleet Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, and supervises the division’s maintenance staff and operations. This role oversees all fleet and equipment support functions, including inspection, repair, pre- and post-servicing, vehicle distribution, quality assurance, and disposal. The Fleet Maintenance Manager will perform diagnostics on garbage trucks and other diesel-powered equipment, manage preventative maintenance programs, and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all fleet vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, operational, and compliant.
- Perform diagnostic tests on diesel-powered equipment to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
- Lead and supervise a team of mechanics and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate with operations and logistics teams to optimize fleet utilization and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance records for inspections, audits, and reporting.
- Manage the fleet maintenance budget, including labor, parts, and equipment costs.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers for parts and services.
- Conduct regular safety training and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
- Proven experience as a technician, preferably in waste management or transportation.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, emissions, brakes, transmissions, and HVAC systems.
- Experience in leading and managing a maintenance team.
- Proficiency in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
