General Purpose of Job:

Works with the Occupational Health Nurse to ensure the health and safety of the employees. Administrative management of work related injury/illness employee claims.

Specific job duties include assessment of work-related injuries, exposures and illness; first aid and triage of injured employees, injury investigations, claims reporting; other duties include phlebotomy procedures, immunizations, testing. Promotes safety and infection control, clerical duties as needed, onboarding, compliance notifications, reviews lab results, correspondence as needed.

Manages Employee Exposures and Illness

  • Initiates new employee and volunteer laboratory screening and testing required by hospital policy.
  • Administers immunizations per DHS Immunization Policy
  • Follows up with all abnormal lab values promptly and offers appropriate vaccines if necessary.
  • Refers employees to private physicians/Health Department as appropriate for illness or abnormal lab results.
  • Manages employee blood and body fluid exposures with scheduled HIV and hepatitis testing.
  • Performs HIV counseling related to required HIV testing of employees and patients involved in blood and body fluid exposures.
  • Counsels' employees exposed to blood borne pathogens on prevention of future exposure.
  • Assists in investigation of exposures

Employee Safety and Health

  • Administers healthy lifestyle initiatives and programs
  • Assesses employee health education needs and suggests education programs and policies for risk reduction.
  • Assist employees with minor first aid and health maintenance per standing orders.
  • Assist with drafting policies pertaining to employee health to be approved through an appropriate committee.

Worker's Compensation

  • Immediate assessment of injured employee, triage, first aid, and referral to medical care as appropriate
  • Files claims
  • Keeps record of light duty and days away (DART)
  • Keeps track of follow up appointments, physical therapy appointments, etc.
  • Schedules follow root cause analysis meetings
  • Ensures Bonafide job offers for light duty are sent to director and employee and returned as needed
  • Helps find light duty assignments for injured workers
  • Keeps close contact with injured employees regarding care and injury
  • Works closely with 3rd party insurance company

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Maintains accurate health records on employees.
  • Maintains records required by regulation or hospital policy
  • Completes reports required by regulation or hospital policy

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with applicable employee health Joint Commission standards.
  • Orients new employees to OSHA requirement for bloodborne pathogens, and other mandatory training.
  • Assist with updates on Federal/State employee health regulations as necessary and decimate this information
  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use computer/software applications required for the job.
  • Demonstrates thoroughness and dependability.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks in a busy medical office environment.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and work with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Must be able to effectively work as a team member.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and performance improvement activities.
  • Schedule / reschedule patients for necessary appointments.
  • Completes the compliance process for new and current employees, volunteers, providers, allied health, etc.,
  • Will occasionally drive for Driscoll Health System for hospital business.
  • Provides necessary back-up support for the OH staff.
  • Processes new hires to include drawing blood, ordering chest xrays, and immunizations as required to meet compliance according to the Immunization Policy.
  • Processes lab specimens, labels appropriately, orders correct immunizations based on titer results.
  • Prepares labs for shipments if needed.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Follows OSHA and CDC guidelines as well as OH Standing Orders.
  • Orders necessary equipment and supplies as needed for clinic.
  • Maintains temperature records for medication refrigerators in accordance to OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Triage / first aid for ill or injured employees as a back up to OH RNs.
  • File IOJ claims as needed.
  • Refer IOJ employee to appropriate medical facility as needed.
  • Order IOJ xray per standing order as needed.
  • Promotes safety of all personnel.
  • Promotes and ensures safe and effective use of equipment for infection control.
  • Orders and stocks supplies daily.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Has completed a Medical Assistant Program and is a certified CMA - Preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Current certification / registration as an MA with in 4 months of hire preferred
