Description
Glendale Community College is currently recruiting for Accountant (3 positions) in the Foundation and Fiscal Services departments.
Definition
Under general direction, performs centralized accounting duties by preparing and maintaining complex accounting reconciliations, resolving accounting discrepancies, determining payroll tax deposits, adjusting documents and journals, and editing and posting transactions to the general ledger; prepares and reconciles various accounts (e.g., bank, revenue, expense, financial aid, and student fees) using financial statements and data and financial systems; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervision
Works under the direct supervision of the department manager.
Does not directly or indirectly supervise other employees but may provide work direction to lower-level employees, temporary employees, and/or student workers.
Schedule
40 hrs/wk, 12 months per year
Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Foundation:
The Foundation Department builds public awareness about the college, fosters connections with the community, and raises funds to support its students, programs, and facilities.
The Accountant - Foundation position will work in the Foundation Department and reports to Executive Director, College Foundation. It is responsible for providing accounting support for all financial aspects of foundation projects, including grants, scholarships, and financial statements.
Fiscal Services:
The Fiscal Services Department manages and oversees the financial operations of the college, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This includes accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and cash management functions.
The Accountant - Grants position will work in the Fiscal Services department and reports to Director, Accounting. It will provide technical support for various campus categorical and/or grant programs.
The Accountant - Construction position will work in the Fiscal Services department and reports to the Director, Accounting. It responsible for providing accounting support for all financial aspects of construction projects, including bonds and budgets.

Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed in this classification.
  • Performs centralized accounting duties by preparing and maintaining complex accounting reconciliations, resolving accounting discrepancies, determining payroll tax deposits, adjusting county documents and journals, and editing and posting transactions to the general ledger.
  • Prepares and reconciles various accounts (e.g., bank, revenue, expense, financial aid, and student fees) using financial statements and financial systems; makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Inputs the schedule of cash transfers in the third-party agency(ies) payroll system in accordance with revenue documents; deposits funds as needed to cover expenditures; confirms that amounts in the account match deposits and works with appropriate parties to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Prepares complex accounting worksheets and supporting schedules to identify and resolve reconciliation discrepancies; prepares and processes adjusting entries in financial accounting system; edits and posts transactions to the general ledger as appropriate.
  • Calculates the appropriate dates and amount of federal and state tax deposits, and provides the information to the department management based on the third-party agency(ies) reports for review and approval of payments.
  • May provide work direction to lower-level employees, temporary employees, and/or student workers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The education, training, and experience qualifications are considered likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, finance,or a related field.
Three (3) years of accounting experience.
Licenses/Certifications/Other Requirements:
None.
Knowledge of:
  • Financial record keeping, accounting and bookkeeping principles, methods, practices, and terminology.
  • Accounting and payroll software used to record and maintain financial information.
  • Laws, regulations, standards, and/or requirements applicable to areas of assignment.
  • Technical methods of data research, collection, compilation, organization, and reporting.
  • Methods of prioritizing, planning, and organizing work.
  • Standard office practices or procedures.
  • Standard office software and modern office equipment.
  • Standard formats for business correspondence and other communications.
  • Methods of filing information using alpha, numeric and alphanumeric systems.

Ability to:
  • Prepare, review, reconcile, calculate, and input financial documents and data.

  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and other documents using multiple business formats.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:

Additional Information
The Accountant salary range is currently R 40.
Starting salary: Step 1 $6,287.37 to Step 3 $6,931.83 per month, based on training and experience.
Salary range: Step 1 $6,287.37 to Step 6 $8,024.46 per month (plus longevity where applicable)
Internal applicants may be initially placed at a higher starting salary as outlined in the CSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
