Work Schedule: Noon - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (work hours will vary according to the academic calendar, university holidays, and similar variables). Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship. The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
Job Summary
The Weekend Research Services Specialist (part-time) provides reference and directional assistance to patrons of Cook Library. The work includes providing courteous and efficient service and referring complex inquiries to a librarian. The position works Saturdays and Sundays, including holidays as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provides reference and directional assistance to library users, in person, by telephone, and via electronic communication methods. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Interprets patron requests and responds with accurate and appropriate information
- Refers complex inquiries to a librarian
- Provides excellent customer service and timely response to patron requests
- Maintains knowledge of information resources available through the Libraries
- Monitors student employees when supervisor is not present
- Models good work habits for others
- Reports concerns to the supervisor
- Serves as employee in charge according to assigned schedule
- Participates in building opening and closing procedures as needed
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in library and information science or related field and one year of customer service experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of customer service principles; Ability to learn library research techniques and resources; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as appropriate for the needs of the audience; Ability to handle emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in library or information science from an accredited college or university; experience working in a library.
