Position Responsibilities: Assumes responsibility for adequate staffing and on-time blood collections. Monitors the workflow constantly to ensure completion of shift's work. Distributes phlebotomist/clerk assignments as required for the workload. Assists supervisor in maintaining personnel records, reviewing orientation material with new employees, teaching/training staff or students as assigned, and performing employee annual competency assessments. Communicates and documents any unusual occurrences or variations from routine operations to supervisor. Follows laboratory policy in regards to standard precaution, the wearing of PPE, and proper disposal of biohazardous waste, routine waste and sharps. Understands and implements computer disaster plan as needed. Maintains a minimum inventory of reagents and supplies to ensure continuous workflow. Demonstrates proficiency in routine venipuncture, blood culture collection, pediatric venipuncture, and Blood Bank collation techniques. Performs duties in an independent manner. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to assess situations and determine an appropriate course of action. Communicates with nursing units and other medical personnel with reference to delays and other concerns. Participates in special projects. Maintains a positive attitude towards departmental policies, in keeping with operation excellence and employee satisfaction. Ensures that summary reports are printed and charted daily. Qualifications: Completion of training program in phlebotomy or medical assisting High School Diploma 2+ years prior phlebotomy experience with competency in all areas of specimen collection.
