Make a difference in the lives of real people every day Diverse community Competitive total compensation package Well-Funded General Employees Retirement Plan Light rail station minutes away On-site fitness center and overall employee well-being programs Internal educational programs to assist with career advancement Access to innovation workspaces Primary Duties & Responsibilities Bilingual Spanish-speaking and writing (Highly Preferred) Serve as a liaison between victims/witnesses and prosecutors Assist victims/witnesses with case status and procedural questions Make phone calls to victims/witnesses before trial and make sure they are informed of the date/time and location of court proceedings, and answer any logistical questions Be present to provide support to victims/witnesses, to provide status communication to victims/witnesses, and to provide information regarding victims to assigned attorneys during jury call Advises victims/witnesses of court processes Assist victims/witnesses with court appearances and provide support while in court, when requested Assist victims in completing victim impact statements and submitting restitution information Provide referrals to victim safety or social service agencies in the community Inform the assigned attorney of any information that may impact a case one way or another Be responsible for understanding the rules of discovery and required disclosures under Brady v. Maryland and other relevant case law Testify in court proceedings, when needed Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions Minimum Qualifications An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education: Associate's Degree in human services, social work, or a directly related field or two (2) years related college level course work. Experience: At least 2 years of human services experience, including at least 6 months of experience working with victims of crime. Licenses and Certifications Required: Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a law enforcement agency is highly desirable. Knowledge Knowledge of victim related issues Knowledge of applicable state laws and the criminal justice system Knowledge of techniques of assessment and crisis intervention Skills Strong interpersonal skills Bi-lingual, Spanish speaking skills highly desirable Abilities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, victims, and citizens Ability to handle sensitive and stressful situations with tact and diplomacy Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to relate to people with a wide variety of needs and concerns while maintaining patience and understanding Essential Personnel When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. Physical Demands Primarily sedentary physical work requiring occasional lifting, carrying, operating office equipment; reading, recording and interpreting information; frequent communication with employees and citizens. Work Environment Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment. Equipment Used Frequently uses computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
