Volunteer Opportunities At Intermountain Health Primary Childrens Hospital
Volunteers offer help to patients, families, and caregivers in the Children's Procedure Center/Imaging Department. Position is unpaid volunteer service. Medical Imaging and the Children's Procedure Center (CPC) has a combined waiting room but branches off into two different spaces. Medical Imaging is a very busy department that serves both inpatient and outpatient families. Caregivers in Medical Imaging are very excited for volunteers to help with many tasks, including playing with children, keeping them up to date on family wait times, and helping staff as needed. The Children's Procedure Center, or CPC, is a department where children come for same-day procedures (such as sedated dental procedures, sedated x-rays, etc.). Engaging with patients by offering children toys and crafts, playing games with them as they wait for their procedures, cleaning toys, and helping staff as needed are just a few examples of the volunteer work you'd be doing. Having volunteers in this area of the hospital is extremely helpful for our patients and families. It makes their experience much more comfortable and enjoyable. Job Description: Volunteers follow instructions from the Charge Nurses and Volunteer Office to perform volunteer functions in the department including: Greet patients and families waiting for their appointment Assist patients and families to their assigned room. Visit patient rooms to offer distraction toys and comfort items. Visit with patients and families. Locate and clean wagons and wheelchairs for use. Assist with toy preparation and cleaning as needed. Assist with basic child distraction interaction as needed. Expectations: Must be at least 16 years old Be able to commit to 6 months of volunteering once a week for three hours Able to follow and execute instructions Ability to work independently as well as part of a team Able to work with children in varying age groups Able to work well with diverse populations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Sensitive to patient and family situations / dynamics Maintain and respect professional relationships Current Shift Needs are as Follows: Mondays: 9am-12pm; 10am-1pm; 12-3pm Tuesdays: 10am-1pm; 12-3pm Wednesdays: 12-3pm Fridays: 9am-12pm; 10am-1pm; 12-3pm Location: Intermountain Health Primary Childrens Hospital City: Salt Lake City State: Utah Intermountain Health is an equal opportunity employer.
