The Department of Management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech seeks applications for one tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2026. This position is for the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. This search is specifically for an associate professor, tenured at a strong research institution, or an advanced assistant professor. This is an organizational behavior/human resources position. As such, we are particularly interested in candidates with strong research and teaching interests in organizational behavior and/or human resources. Ideal applicants will have demonstrated abilities in research and doctoral student mentorship and can contribute to the strong research culture of the Pamplin College of Business. The Department of Management consists of 36 full-time faculty with an impressive range of leading-edge research and teaching expertise in various areas of management. Our tenure-track faculty include Jeffrey Arthur, Kiran Awate, Daniel Beal, William Becker, Katrina Brownell, Kevin Carlson, Cynthia Devers, Devi Gnyawali, Donald Hatfield, Richard Hunt, Pankaj Kumar, Trey Lewis, Christopher Porter, Karen Schnatterly, Phil Thompson, David Townsend, A.K. Ward Bartlett, and Marla White. Our faculty publish in top journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and others. Virginia Tech has 30,000+ undergraduate and 7,000+ graduate students and a $1B+ Innovation Campus in Arlington VA that is key to continuing our development of world-class research and educational programs in management, entrepreneurship, and emerging area innovation. These initiatives are supported by a growing number of public/private partnerships sponsored by Virginia Tech, the Commonwealth of Virginia, high growth startups, and leading global companies. The Pamplin College of Business offers majors in management, accounting and information systems, business information technology, finance, hospitality and tourism management, marketing, and real estate. The Department of Management's academic programs include four undergraduate majors, three interdisciplinary minors, and a full-time Ph.D. program. The department is an active contributor to five master's programs, including the top-ranked Master of Information Technology Program, as well as an Executive Ph.D. program headquartered in the new 11-story, 300,000 square-foot Innovation Campus building in Alexandria, VA. Virginia Tech also recently opened the 1st building of the Global Business Analytics Complex on its main campus in Blacksburg, and groundbreaking for a 2nd building that will serve as the new home for the Pamplin College of Business will commence in September 2025. Candidates should have: (1) a doctorate in Management, or a closely related field from an AACSB accredited or similar school; (2) a strong program of scholarly research focused on organizational behavior or human resources with recent publications in top management journals; (3) evidence of successful mentoring of doctoral students and/or junior faculty; (4) interest in continuing to conduct research with a high probability of publication in top management journals; and (5) the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to advancing the research visibility of the college and university. Preferred candidates will have: (1) research that intersects the organizational behavior and human resources subfields; (2) overlap of research interests with those of our current faculty; and (3) demonstrated teaching effectiveness. About Blacksburg Blacksburg is located near the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Trail, and its natural beauty and temperate climate are attractive to many.
