The Kings County District Attorney's Office (KCDA) is one of the largest prosecutors' offices in the country, serving more than 2.5 million New Yorkers and is a leader in the national effort to modernize prosecutions. Under the leadership of District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, the office has earned national recognition for reforms in conviction review, alternatives to incarceration, and data transparency. At a pivotal moment for both criminal justice and artificial intelligence, the office is launching a new initiative to responsibly integrate cutting-edge technology into prosecutorial work and seek visionary leaders to help us build what's next. This is an extraordinary opportunity to apply your engineering and leadership skills in public service, helping shape the ethical use of AI in one of the most complex and consequential domains of government. The KCDA seeks an AI Strategy & Implementation Lead to help spearhead its growing portfolio of artificial intelligence initiatives. This individual will play a central role in developing and deploying AI-powered tools, especially large language model applications, to improve legal workflows, streamline data management, and promote more equitable outcomes. The ideal candidate combines strong technical capabilities with clear strategic thinking and project management experience. Key Responsibilities: Design, prototype, and help deploy AI solutions, particularly large language model applications, to support legal research, document review, and internal knowledge management. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across legal, IT, and administrative divisions to understand pain points and co-design solutions. Oversee system implementation, including integration with existing data platforms, secure model hosting, and testing/QA. Coordinate with external academic, nonprofit, and industry partners contributing technical assistance and research support. Evaluate emerging AI tools and trends, assessing risks and opportunities for adoption within prosecutorial and legal contexts. Help lead the development of policies and training materials to support responsible, bias-aware use of AI technologies. Manage timelines, scope, and cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of milestones. Report directly to senior executive leadership, including the Chief of Innovation and District Attorney. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with open-source LLMs or secure deployment platforms for public sector environments. Experience with building simple UI interfaces, LLM orchestration frameworks and prompt engineering techniques and evaluations strategies. Familiarity with legal systems, criminal justice datasets, or access to justice initiatives. Proficiency with Python, cloud infrastructure, and APIs for model orchestration. Familiarity with SQL, C+, C++, and other coding languages preferred. Experience working within or alongside government agencies or public institutions. Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Commitment to public service, equity, and the ethical development of technology. Minimum Qualifications: A baccalaureate degree in computer science, engineering or a related field from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to IT automation engineering, monitoring engineering, management of infrastructure; or Eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to IT automation engineering, monitoring engineering, management of infrastructure; Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
