Retention Specialist

This position reports to the Student Success Center Director in the School of Health Sciences and Wellness and is responsible for School retention efforts and academic advising. The Retention Coordinator is a SHSW liaison with UWSP Admissions. On a day-to-day basis, the Retention Specialist is responsible for managing collaborative initiatives that impact outreach and recruitment, retention, and student success of undergraduates in the School of Health Sciences and Wellness. The work of this individual is highly complex and ever-changing to best meet the needs of students in various academic programs. The Retention Specialist collaborates and connects School, college and campus constituents and external constituents to leverage program efforts and School initiatives. The Retention Specialist serves as the primary academic adviser to a select group of students and provides advising support when needed for students across the entire School. Key Job Responsibilities

Serve as academic and career advisor for SHSW perspective, new, current, and transfer students. Serve as instructor for HSW 100

Student Success in Health and Wellness Professions Involvement in School/UWSP recruitment events such as ViewPoint Days, Admitted Student Days. Advise HOSA student organization at UWSP Manage Student Success Center Newsletter Required Qualifications

Professional work experience in advising, career services, admissions, and/or student services in a school, college, or university setting or equivalent skills and experience Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated effectiveness encouraging and motivating students with a strong commitment to student success Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Attentive to detail and strong record-keeping and data management skills Demonstrated use of technology Education
